Foggy, foggy morning….so foggy that the fog still hadn’t completed lifted until after 10:00 am!
For the last couple of days I’ve had little to no internet access so I’ve been watching a lot of TV. This morning I watched Gladiator and really enjoyed it. Didn’t think I would but I was quite surprised. If you haven’t seen it and are looking for a good movie….give it a shot!
I made pancakes and bacon for breakfast and packages Michael’s up so that he could take it to work and eat it once he got settled in.
The ‘new’ night guy told Michael he had a good night. He’s a medically retired Army 1st Sergeant and is taking online classes for a degree in law enforcement. So working the night shift should give him lots of opportunity to do his school work without being interrupted too much.
Not much for me to do today – laundry, cleaned out a cabinet that was pretty dusty and also wiped down the inside of the refrigerator.
Lack of internet and contact with the outside world made me pretty cranky by the end of the day.
We enjoyed a spaghetti dinner (sauce pulled out of the freezer) from our recliners while we watched some TV.
Not long after we finished dinner, the kitchen was cleaned up and Michael had taken a shower we moved into the bedroom and relaxed in our comfy bed while watching another TV show before turning the light off for the night.
It started raining late last night and was still raining when I took Michael to work at 5:45 am. The road was pretty slick in spots and I was a bit concerned about ending up stuck…but I made it there and back just fine. Thankfully by mid-morning the rain dried up and the roads did too!
Since my internet reception has been pretty crappy I went over to the guard shack and used Michael’s internet to fill in my NCAA bracket. For the past several years we’ve had a small pool that our son, Dan, puts together. Nothing huge…just us, our boys, their wives and a few other people….a couple of Dan’s good friends from school, a couple of their parents and our daughter in law, Amanda’s Mom, step Dad and sister. We have a really good time ‘trash talking’!
This morning while Michael was sitting in the ‘office’ the door (which is normally cracked open) opened and in walked a reddish-colored dog. It was wet and dreary out and I guess she was looking for a place out of the rain. She promptly curled up under the desk and made herself comfy!
I met with 3 other ladies for a gate guard luncheon at Taqueria Jalisco – not my favorite place but one of the ladies likes it there so that’s where we went. We had a really nice time catching up and planned to do it again in April.
While in town I made a stop at the UPS Store to pick up our mail and then Walmart to pick up groceries and a few miscellaneous items.
Michael thought that some fried chicken sounded good for dinner so I stopped at Church’s on the way out of town. It’s about a 30 minute drive back home from Kenedy so by the time I got home it was 5:35 pm…giving me just enough time to run the groceries that needed to be refrigerated into the house, put them away. 10 minutes later I was picking Michael up from work.
We both enjoyed watching TV in bed last night that we decided to do it again. It’s a nice way to unwind together and spend a relaxing hour or so together.
Today is the 30th anniversary of our first date. No big fancy meals, movies or picnics for us….nope…we just cruised up and down Central Avenue in Hot Springs, Arkansas. We did happen to stop at Burger King for french fries and it was there that Michael told me he was joining the Army (he was already in the Arkansas National Guard) and asked me to go to Germany with him as he had his choice of assignments. (Because I had told him I always wanted to go to Germany) This was his form of a marriage proposal. Seventeen years later I finally got to Germany….for 2 weeks. LOL
I drove Michael to work again this morning so that I could have the truck. My friend, Debbie, wasn’t able to make it to the luncheon yesterday as her road was crazy muddy and they just have a little car. She had offered to lend us their internet booster since they don’t need it and was going to give it to me at lunch. So we decided to meet today for lunch. We met at the same place that the luncheon was at yesterday. We enjoyed some one-on-one conversation and I finally find a dish there that was pretty good.
When I got to ‘the office’ Michael’s new friend was still there. Michael had been calling her Red but I told him that Ginger suited her better as she’s more of a girly girl.
After lunch she handed off the booster (working pretty good as I am blogging today!) and we both stopped at HEB for some groceries. I just needed a few items that missed making my list from the day before. While I was shopping I mislaid my phone and searched high and low, one of the employees even helped me search, using his cell phone to call mine in hopes that we would here it ring. Ugh! I was certain that someone had taken it out of my purse while my back was turned. A member of management took down my info and was going to review the video from the many cameras in the store to see if they could see what happened.
Just as I was going to check out the employee who helped me look for my phone and another employee came from the last aisle I’d been on and had big smiles on their faces and were holding my phone! Darned if I didn’t set in on a self while I looked at a new water bottle!
I have become so dependent on that darn phone – I almost felt like I’d lost a beloved pet! Good grief!
The NCAA games started yesterday and there were 2 big upsets! Both ISU and Baylor out of it WAY early. We were all really pulling for ISU as our son, Dan, and his friends Mike & Chris all went to ISU (all in the pool, too!). Their loss (as well as Baylor’s) hurt a lot of the brackets in the pool so it should be interesting to see how the rest of the games play out!
