Leif Erikson

I could tell that traffic had increased some yesterday (Monday) versus the weekend but when I checked my actual numbers (I keep a daily count of the vehicles) it was quite apparent.  Saturday and Sunday we averaged 168 vehicles while yesterday we had our highest day so far on this gate – 208.  That’s still actually less than what we’ve averaged on past gates which was 225.  So we’re thankful for the ‘slow down’.

Part of the pick up in numbers is due to having the crews here to work on tying in the pipeline.  Those crews alone bring in 19 vehicles/38 men…several of which I remember from the past.  One in particular is a guy I like to call Leif Erikson.  He just reminds me of the famous explorer – big guy with red hair, mustache and full red beard.  He came in for the first time today and as soon as I saw him I said, ‘Leif Erikson!’ and boy did he laugh!  He remembered, as well.  Gosh I love this part of the job!

The airplanes I’ve been hearing overhead since we arrived here were out again today and I actually SAW them this time!  They look like Air Force jets of some sort and certainly looks like some sort of training exercise similar to Snoopy & the Red Baron!  I tried to get a picture but by the time I got my camera they had disappeared again.  🙁

Last nights food delivery was chicken fried chicken, mashed potatoes & corn.  VERY good.  They also gave Michael an entire Million Dollar Pie.  It’s good, as well, just different.  Kind of like a whipped cream with pineapple, coconut and nuts in it.  Different.

This afternoon they grilled burgers again and we were given 4 with cheese, lettuce and tomato on the side.  He was going to give me buns too but I told him I had some that needed to be used up that we’d use.

The last few days have been exceptionally beautiful!  Highs in the low 80s, sunny skies, gentle breeze.  Tomorrow is supposed to cool of to the mid 70s and then Thursday is expected to be below 60 and windy!  One thing I don’t like about living in our coach is wind.  I’m able to tolerate it better than I did in the beginning but I’m still a wuss!  :-/

We want to hear from you...whatcha got to say??
