Missin’ Home, Mop Top & Brewers Baseball

Getting rid of mop top!

Getting rid of mop top!

We’re really enjoying our time with the kids and grandkids but missing our home.  Dorothy sure had it right when she claimed, “There’s no place like home”.  We still have 3 weeks here on Long Island and then we’ll move to Clearfield, Utah (a suburb of Ogden) for 2 weeks.  Then it’s back to Arkansas to pick up the coach and then onward.

The time with our grandbabies is so worth being away from home.  Ben, our youngest grandson, has treated us to lots of ‘firsts’ so far.  Since we arrived he started sitting up on his own from lying down and this past Tuesday he started pulling himself up to a standing position.  We don’t get to share many milestones with the babies so this has been a real treat.  Now we have 3 weeks to get him to crawl on his hands and knees….

Michael has been sporting a mop on his head as of late.  I finally got him to go and get a hair cut Wednesday afternoon.  While he was at it he got a straight razor shave too.  He looks much more human now!  I used to think I didn’t care for the military cuts he sported all those years….but now I know I don’t care for the scruffy bum he becomes!

Michael's drywall contraption. We laid a piece of drywall face first on the long boards, then slid it up toward the ceiling, then flipped it up into the lip of the short board which helped to hold it in place while I also held it so that Michael could screw it into place.

Michael continues on the drywalling portion of the bedroom.  The hardest part is now done….the cathedral ceiling.  He had planned to rent a lift but in the end decided against it.  He put together his own lift of sorts.  Which worked pretty darn good.  It worked well enough that he didn’t have to wait for Dan to get home from work to help get the sheets of drywall up.  I was able to give him the help that he needed.

The Milwaukee Brewers are playing the New York Mets here on Long Island this week so Dan, Michael & I took advantage and went to the game Wednesday night.  Unfortunately, Amanda was committed to work for VIP week at the gym.  The trek to Citifield is about 35 miles but of course you have to consider we’re on Long Island where everything seems to take much longer so it took us over an hour.

When we finally found the parking lot we easily made our way across the street to the stadium.  We made a quick stop at the Wise display and were each given a bag of free chips to enjoy during the game.  From there we found a kiosk to pick up our tickets that had

been purchased online a few days prior.  We’d gotten an awesome deal – game ticket, burger, hot dog or pizza, fries or pretzel and a drink for $24!!  The seats were on the 2nd level in left field and we had an awesome view of the field.

The Brewers had a great outing beating the Mets 3-1.  Although they should have had a lot more runs since they had 11 hits but we were still happy that they pulled out the win for us.
