The Waiting Is The Hardest Part…

Posted by on January 12, 2014

That’s what someone told me today….I guess we’ll just see about that, now won’t we??

We spent the day planning for a move tomorrow (although we’re well aware that things in the ‘oil patch’ can change quickly). We haven’t unpacked a whole lot knowing that we could be assigned to a gate at any time but I did put away most everything that I knew we wouldn’t need between now and tomorrow.  I also did a couple of loads of laundry so that everything would be clean just in case we do start working tomorrow.

It’s a good thing we did do our prep work because just about 2:00 pm we got the call.  The call confirming that we were being assigned to a gate tomorrow and that we needed to be at the yard in Karnes City at 7:30 am.  We were given directions to the yard, told that someone there would take us to the gate, the name of the oil company and that they’re in the second stage of the process.  That’s all the information we received.

Wayne & Nancy J....GOOD people

Wayne & Nancy J….GOOD people

We met Wayne and Nancy over at Choke Canyon Bar-B-Q shortly before 5:00 pm for dinner.  They have to report to their ‘night watchman’ position at 7:00 pm so that gave us about an hour and a half to enjoy dinner and each others company.

Since they’ve been doing this for 3 years we asked them lots of questions about our upcoming journey and they were able to give us lots of different scenarios.  Scenarios because each gate is different….everything depends on the company, the man in charge and the circumstances.  But it’s nice to have some ideas of what to expect.

After telling them what we knew about this gate being in the ‘second stage’ of the process it sounded to them that this might be the ‘fracking‘ stage, which I believe, is the busiest part of the process…yikes!  But we won’t know for sure until we get there.  I guess we’ll just be diving in head first and we surely won’t be bored!

We really enjoyed our time with Wayne and Nancy and hope to be able to get together again at some point…but since the adventure we’re about to embark on is so unpredictable we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.  Thanks so much for sending them our way, Roy!

When we got home from dinner Michael finished up putting the water hoses and sewer stuff away.  I came inside and threw a batch of brownies in the oven.  (Since we don’t have any idea what we’re up for really…at least I know we’ll have some yummy brownies to snack on!  Chocolate makes everything better, you know!) All that will need to be done in the morning is to hook up the truck to the coach, unhook the power and bring in the slides and we’ll be ready to hit the road.

I hope tomorrow, your first day “on the job”, is a good one, a good introduction to this new endeavor. And yes, brownies are bound to make the day better. LOL!

Good luck…. just a reminder i got from Nelly …. if you can, make brownies, muffins, cookies at least a couple times a week for the workers. Larry gave them the goodies in The mornings and i baked this at night when i wasnt crocheting….. as you get to know the Big Dogs on the job you will find out what kind of treats they like and every once in awhile you can surprise them and they will take care of you…..
