The rally is over and our friends our leaving by the dozens. We won’t see many until next year’s National Rally, tentatively scheduled for Urbanna, Virginia in June of 2014. It’s bittersweet as we hate to see everyone go…but we are definitely looking forward to some downtime!
We were up fairly early again this morning and down at the rally hall about 7:30 am for breakfast. Nelson’s Catering provided breakfast (burritos, bagelwiches, fruit, donuts & drinks). We had a pretty good turn out. People started pulling out very early and many stopped to pick up a sandwich for the road. We said our good-byes to those that we saw.
After breakfast we took one last drive on our ‘little red golf cart’ to say some more goodbyes and to see the transformation of our rally playground into a barren waste land. There are several coaches that are staying for another day or to before moving on. We also capped a few Munzees that were quite a way out in the ‘back 40’ while we still had the golf cart.
At 10:00 am we were back at the rally hall to attend the church service provided by Buddy Riddle, a fellow Heartlander. Buddy is a retired Houston Police Officer turned pastor, who has just returned to law enforcement. We had a nice turn out for the service. We sang a few songs to begin the service and then Buddy did a really nice job of interpreting part of the bible for us. I really like that he was easy to follow and spoke so that we could all understand. So often a ‘preacher’ speaks above his audience and then it’s hard to follow along so then you can get easily distracted. Not so, today.
After church we dropped our golf cart off in the designated spot and then walked the short distance home. We spent the majority of the day relaxing. However, after nearly 2 weeks of neglect the coach needed some straightening up, which I did and I also did a few loads of laundry and between the two of us we got everything folded and put away.
We still have at least 40 coaches here in the park so this evening about 75 of us met up at the rally hall at 5:30 pm and enjoyed another dinner together. We didn’t have anything fancy…just leftovers from the last few nights of catered meals but it was nice to gather with a much smaller group. We had a whole new set of dinner partners again…the Brown’s from Florida, the Parent’s from Canada & the Bartachek’s from Iowa. We had some really good conversation while we enjoyed our dinner. There was still a TON of leftovers left so many of us took some home. We brought home some green beans, sweet potato casserole and dinner rolls that we’ll have within the next few nights with some ham & brats that we have leftover from a couple of nights ago. We certainly aren’t going to go hungry any time soon.
We were back home by 7:00 pm. I repackaged and put away the food we brought home and finished up the laundry. While I worked inside Michael was outside working on starting to pull up the basement floor. I think it’s going to be a very long process so I’ll update as the days go by. While Michael was out there he had several guys (Bobby A, Jim, Kevin & Terry) stop by to see what he was up to…you can always be sure that there is a project to be done and there are Heartland men around they’ll stop by to lend a hand.
