Tomorrow we leave Wyoming and set sail for South Dakota, our ‘new’ home state. We established an address in South Dakota last June/July with My Dakota Address. Then this past February we had our license plates changed over to South Dakota. Now it’s time to get our drivers license changed over to South Dakota as well. Once that’s complete our conversion to the full-timing lifestyle will be complete.
Our plan was to stop in the Rapid City area for a few days and then to move onto Montrose, South Dakota on the eastern side of the state, where we’ll get our drivers licenses. We had no reservations for the Rapid City area but had plans A, B & C in place. This morning I called our first choice, Ellsworth AFB FamCamp, and was able to make reservations for 4 nights. While there we’ll do a little site-seeing but since we’ve been there before not a whole lot. We’ll just revisit Mt. Rushmore and Custer State Park.
I also made a phone call to the city of Montrose to find out exactly where the campground we’ll be staying at while we’re there is located. I wasn’t able to find an address online or by looking at Google maps. I was given the junction of the two streets that the park is on and directions to the city office so that we can get a receipt for our stay. While I was on a phone calling ‘roll’ I called the DMV in Madison, SD (where our mailing address is) to verify hours, fees & documentation needed to get our drivers licenses.
Michael completed his ‘fix the bent stabilizer jack’ project and they retract and extend perfectly again. Hallelujah! While he did that I searched a couple of different workamping websites for positions for this fall. I sent off 10+ applications and will continue my search in a few days when the dust settles. Keep your fingers crossed!
We finally got a break (it’s been raining off and on the last couple of days) and were able to have a campfire. It was great to sit and relax by the fire and eat some tasty s’mores! We were outside for about 2 hours before we got chased inside by rain drops.
