Moving Day: Panguitch, UT To Hill AFB, Utah (Ogden)

Posted by on April 10, 2013

Getting ready to leave this morning was a breeze since we never unhooked from the truck!  Just a matter of unhooking the water & electric, bringing up the jacks, bringing in the slides and stowing the few things that were out.  We pulled out of our site at 8:58 am.  We had 278 miles to travel today, which is a good travel day for us.

Ready to head out...snow and all!

We started out heading north on US 89 before turning west onto UT-20.  We were surprised to see beautiful snow-covered mountains that we hadn’t been able to see when we arrived in the area on Monday due to the snowy conditions.  The 20-mile drive on UT-20 provided views of rolling hills and snow-flocked trees as well as mountains.

Having spent a good portion of my life in Wisconsin I am not a big fan of snow...but it sure can be pretty

Once we hit I-15 we stayed on it until our exit going into Hill Air Force Base.  The entire drive was one of the most picturesque to date.  The majority of the time we had mountains on at least three sides and with the recent snowfall they were even more stunning.

We arrived at Hill AFB FamCamp about 3:30 and went straight to our site, 15.  We arrived after the office closed but I had called to verify our reservations and was told to go ahead and park and come in in the money to settle up.  We have a gorgeous view of the snow-covered mountains out the living room window so we’ll enjoy our weeks stay here, I’m sure.

While we were stopped at a rest stop a gentlemen stopped to point out that the tread on our drivers side tire on the truck was starting to wear unevenly.  After checking you could see that both front tires were defective but the driver’s side was the worst.  We decided to take our chances and continue on to Ogden, drop the coach and take it over to the Ford dealer 3 miles from the park.

Strange wear pattern??

Strange wear pattern??

By the time we got to the dealer (Ed Kenley Ford) it was too late for them to look at the truck so they’ll look at it first thing in the morning and determine what caused the strange wearing – and we’ll go from there.  In the meantime, we have hired a rental car from chauffeurservicelondon.com and will continue on with our plans of going into Salt Lake City to do some sight-seeing tomorrow.  It’ll be much easier to find a parking spot with this little car versus our big ‘hippy’ truck!  😉

Since the weather cooperated we were able to get out Utah sticker on the map!
