Veggie Man & Peek-A-Boo

Posted by on January 26, 2013

We really are enjoying the weather here in the RGV…lows in the low 60s/upper 50s – great for sleeping with the windows open.  Highs in the mid 80s (so far) with beautiful breezes.  We haven’t felt the need to turn the air conditioner on yet as the breeze does a great job of keeping things cool.  I am going to have a very hard time leaving here in 2 weeks and heading north.  Brrr…hopefully our next few locations won’t be too cold (Kerrville, El Paso & Phoenix)!

On Saturday’s at 1:00 pm the ‘Veggie Man’ comes to the park.  First he drives around the entire parking honking his horn to let everyone know that he is here and then parks up by the office/clubhouse to sell his goods.  We headed up to the office as soon as he came by and along with several others purchased our fruits & veggies for the week.  The ‘Veggie Man’ is an older Mexican gentleman who speaks only bits and pieces of English.  He had his granddaughter with him today to help in translation.  She is probably about 9 or so and such a sweet and helpful little girl.  Today we purchased pineapple, cantaloupe, carrots, cucumbers, potatoes & oranges for $10.00.

As soon as we got home I had a Skype date with Paityn our almost 2-year-old granddaughter.  Michael dropped me off quickly while he went to deliver some paperwork to one of the Heartland owners in the park.  I started our Skype conversation with Paityn and by the time Michael got back Paityn was asking ‘where’s Papaw’?  We had a good time ‘playing’ with our Pnut and look forward to the next Skype date.

The rest of our day was very low-key.  I did a little route planning but other than that we just relaxed and took the day off.  I did, however, make us a baked ham dinner with the trimmings – two-tone mashed potatoes, corn, fruit salad & dinner rolls.  We have lots of leftover ham for potato soup and ham & eggs!  Yummy!

Got a phone call from Heartland friends, Kevin & Nelly Wolbeck as they arrived in the valley today and we’re looking forward to getting together with them tomorrow.  We’ll have more and more friends here in the valley soon as we have several Heartland events coming up starting on Monday.  Woohoo!!
