We had a relatively quiet day at home today. I worked on spiffing the coach up inside (laundry, dusting, vacuuming) while Michael worked outside spiffing up the frame. He washed the frame (trying to get any remaining saltwater off) and then worked on a few spots that were showing some rust and then finally touched up those areas with black paint.
We went for a walk around the lake and park, stopping to check out the wood shop, pool and island out in the middle of the lake. We came upon the three couples we played Jokers with last night and visited with them for a while before heading back home to get ready for dinner. Just before we left one of the men, gave Michael and I each a John Deere hat form a dealership in Missouri. He worked there for 10 years after retiring from the post office (after working there for 30 years). He brings a box of hats down to the RGV every year to hand out. He & Janice’s coach has all kinds of John Deere decorations decorating the outside…I’ll just be there’s some inside too!
This RV park, other than have short and tight sites isn’t too bad. It’s fairly reasonably priced ($425 per month plus electric), has a lot of activities and the overwhelming majority of the people are super friendly. The biggest thing we see is that the place is ‘tired’. (Michael’s words) There is so much potential with a lake in the middle of everything. A large gazebo out in the middle of the lake with picnic tables & grills. A pool the shape of Texas with a nice surrounding area for chairs and tables and an in ground hot tub. But the lake is nearly empty (it used to be filled we’re told), the gazebo is dirty and over grown with spider webs, the pool is missing tiles and could use a good cleaning and the hot tub has a board over the top of it with a self standing hot tub now being used. We’re told that the place has changed hands 3 times in the past 5 years…maybe the newest owners will work on getting the place to where it should be.
We went up to the clubhouse for Hamburger Night again. Michael is a hamburger kind of guy so you can bet we won’t be missing a Hamburger night while we’re here! And for $6.00 total for both of us…you just really can’t beat it. Jamie & Ann sat with us and we enjoyed some good conversation before they had to go help clean up, they’d volunteered their services. They’re one of the couples we met last night and taught us how to play Jokers. They made sure to remind us that they’re playing again on Wednesday night and that we should join them. We’re planning on it!
