Ft. Sam Houston Park VS. Randolph AFB Park

Took a quick drive into Canyon Lake to the post office to set up a ‘General Delivery’ address for us while we’re here.  We have quite a bit of mail accumulated in South Dakota so now we can have it all forwarded here.

While we were out we decided to take a drive down the road to the Ft. Sam RV part of the park.  Ft. Sam Houston, Lackland AFB & Randolph AFB have joined forces and are now known as Joint Base San Antonio.  Ft. Sam & Randolph each had a recreation area on Canyon Lake – just a few feet apart actually.  They are now considered to be the JBSA Recreation Park.  However, the parks are separate from one another but just across the road from each other.   The Ft. Sam side has more RV spaces – 30 but they’re pretty close to each other and their whole area (picnic areas, tent camping, marina, beach etc) is smaller.  The Randolph side only has 9 RV sites but their total area is larger and in my opinion more scenic.

Part of the picnic area on the Randolph AFB side. See the cool hills in the back? That’s why they call this ‘Texas Hill Country’!

When we got back home we sat out on the patio and enjoyed the gorgeous day (temperature got to 80).  While we were out there we watched some TV and enjoyed the visit of 9+ deer, one of which was an 8-point buck.  We ate out dinner (hamburger steaks with onions & gravy) out on the patio as well and enjoyed watching the deer as they meandered around.

Might be hard to see but there are 2 deer on the edge of the road

We want to hear from you...whatcha got to say??
