Moving Day: Ft. Hood, TX To Canyon Lake, Texas

Posted by on November 19, 2012

Rather than take the same old boring I-35 south we decided to take some ‘back’ roads.  We took 190 west to Lampasas and then hit 281 south for 72 miles or so before traveling on several ‘Farm to Market’ (FM) roads.  It was a nice short scenic drive of just 113 miles.  We pulled out of the West Ft. Hood RV Park just after noon and pulled into the Randolph Canyon Lake Recreation Area just before 4:00 pm (which included an hour stop for lunch).

Heading down the road with ‘Firecrackers‘ at the ready!

What decided to stop for lunch at The Blue Bonnet Cafe in Marble Falls.  Michael had seen advertisements for it stating that it had been in business since 1929…with that kind of history you know it had to be good!  We both enjoyed our meals – I ordered smoked chicken and Michael had a cheeseburger and fries.  They also make pies…tons of them!  So we HAD to each take a piece home to enjoy this evening.

We are nestled into site 2 and ready to enjoy the next 4 weeks here.  (Michael got the satellite dish set up pretty easily and we have internet & 3G phone access so life is good!)  There are only 9 RV sites here so it should be pretty quiet.  I think we’ll be enjoying deer watching while we’re here as there were 2 waiting for us as we pulled in.  Just down the road from us is the JBSA Recreation Park at Canyon Lake so we’ll be checking that out while we’re here as well.  They have 33 sites but from what we can see from the campground map they look to be pretty close quarters.  We’ll let you know!
