Moving Day: Ft. Benning, GA To Piedmont, SC

Posted by on September 21, 2012

I was up early and enjoyed some quiet time checking my email, FB and Heartland forum before Michael got up and we started prepping for our move to South Carolina.  We are visiting long-time friends, Ken & Cheryl Dyal.  We met Ken & Cheryl at our very first duty station, Ft. Bliss, TX, back in 1985!  We’re so looking forward to spending the next week in their area and getting to know their ‘hometown’.

I made, what has become our ‘travel day’ breakfast, (English muffins, microwaved eggs, microwaved bacon, & cheese – it’s super fast & easy!) along with some fresh strawberries & bananas and we finished up getting ready to hit the road.  We were on the road at 9:45 am.  We hit Atlanta just about noon and pretty much just breezed on by!  We stopped at a Pilot for lunch and went inside and had McDonald’s.  We were there just about an hour before we hit the road again.  Only 90 miles left to our destination at this point.  We arrived at Ivy Acres RV Park at about 3:45 pm and were set up in site 227 by 4:30 pm.

On our trip to Wisconsin we found that our TPMS was having trouble tracking the back tires on the coach and Michael determined that we needed a repeater.  (Spoke to one of our Heartland friends that also have a blog ‘Our Mammoth Travels‘ and found that they just added a repeater and it helped.  So while we were traveling down the road today we called Truck System Technologies (TST) and ordered a repeater – hoping that that does the trick!  Should have it Tuesday.  We’ll let you know!

Woohoo!  Today we got to add a new state sticker to our travel map!  Several more coming soon!

South Carolina!

Ken & Cheryl and their youngest son, K.O., met us at the park shortly before 6:00 pm and after showing them around our home they whisked us away to Ryan’s in Greenville.  We enjoyed our meal and after nearly 3 1/2 hours of conversation (and LOTS of laughter!) they dropped us back off at home.  They’ll be back in the morning to pick us up as they’re taking us to Flat Rock, NC to visit the home of poet Carl Sandberg.  Can’t wait!
